NEW FEATURES II. RELEASE NOTES III. UPGRADING FROM AN EARLIER VERSION IV. TOKEN ACCESS CONNECTION TO ISI'S WEB OF SCIENCE IV. CONTACT INFORMATION ---------------------------------------------------- I. NEW FEATURES ---------------------------------------------------- Insert Graphics and Files: * Store images (i.e., BMP, TIFF, JPEG) or attach a file (i.e., Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) using the new Image and Caption fields-maintain graphical data and technical drawings in an easy-to-use format. * Organize graphics in the EndNote library using three new record types: Figure, Chart and Equation - for the first time use EndNote to manage more than text. Use Enhanced Word Processor Support: * Select graphics stored in an EndNote library to insert in a Microsoft Word document - access the figure and caption easily. * Create a figure list in Microsoft Word - ensure every figure inserted with EndNote is represented on the published list. * Use predefined manuscript templates in Microsoft Word to assist with the page layout - save time meeting the publisher's requirements. * Export a traveling library from a Microsoft Word document into an EndNote library - share references cited by colleagues. * Use Cite While You Write with Microsoft Word 97, 2000 or XP. * Use the EndNote Add-in with WordPerfect 9 (2000) or 10 (2002). Try These Great Enhancements: * Use updated and new output styles/import filters/connection files. * Print individual references while in Edit view. * Copy references to your Palm OS-based devices. Refined User Interface: * EndNote new Tools menu consolidates access to Connection files, Term Lists, Manuscript Templates and Cite While You Write (CWYW) features. ---------------------------------------------------- II. RELEASE NOTES ---------------------------------------------------- Compatibility Issues: * Libraries created in EndNote 5 and earlier can be opened with EndNote 6. No conversion is necessary. * In Microsoft Word 97, 2000 and XP documents, EndNote 6 automatically updates previous versions of EndNote Cite While You Write citations when you format the bibliography. * Cite While You Write formatted Word documents are compatible with EndNote 6. A document shared between EndNote 5 & 6 users contains an embedded Traveling library with the necessary reference information, so you do not need to send a copy of your library. The new Cite While You Write (CWYW) Export Traveling Library feature will allow you to automatically send the bibliographic data to a new or existing library. * Images and files stored in EndNote 6 cannot be exported. To share the images and files stored within a library, send a copy of the library's .DATA folder. For more information on sharing libraries, see the Storing and Sharing Image Files section of the online help or PDF manual. * If you chose to use the new Reference Types available in EndNote 6 (Chart, Figure, and Graph), then some data in these fields will not be preserved if the data file is opened and edited by an earlier version of EndNote (i.e., Images will be lost). * Users of earlier versions of EndNote and EndNote 6 users can share an EndNote data file in READ-ONLY mode, however, we do not recommend doing this. There is the potential for data loss should a user of the earlier EndNote version accidently gain write privileges to the data file, allowing them to edit data. * If users of earlier versions of EndNote and EndNote 6 users do share a data file in READ-ONLY mode, the users of the earlier version will not be able to see the new fields from EndNote 6 (Image and Caption) and the new reference types (Chart, Figure, Graph) will be seen as "Generic". This is because the earlier version will not recognize the new reference types. Online Documentation: * An online version of the EndNote Manual is provided with this installation as a "PDF" file. To open and read the EndNote Manual PDF file, you need Adobe System's Acrobat Reader 4.0 or later on your computer. If you don't already have Acrobat Reader, you may download it without charge from Adobe's site: http://www.adobe.com/prodindex/acrobat/readstep.html * The EndNote Help file is available from the "Help" menu. Many dialogs also include context-sensitive help from a "Help" button or by pressing the F1 key. Technical Notes: * To register the Cite While You Write files, open EndNote 6 from the Start menu at least once before accessing the Cite While You Write commands in Word. * Formatting Figure List functionality is independent of Cite While You Write. Triggering Cite While You Write features such as Insert Citation, Format Bibliography, Edit Citation or Unformat Citation will not affect the figures inserted into your document. If changes to a figure are made within the EndNote library, the change will not be reflected within a manuscript containing that figure. The figure must be deleted from the manuscript and re-inserted using EndNote 6, FIND FIGURE(S) command. * It is not always possible for Endnote to format your bibliography or figure list exactly as needed, so you might have to manually edit the formatted bibliography or figure list. If you must do this, remember that in the event of a reformat, EndNote will not preserve your edits. For more information on this subject, refer to the Directly Editing Bibliographies and Formatting your Figure List section in the online help or manual. * Notes regarding computers with installations of Microsoft Word XP: - Smart Tags must be enabled to run EndNote's Instant Formatting feature. - The latest Microsoft Service Update should be installed on your computer. To download this service update, go to http://office.microsoft.com/ProductUpdates/default.aspx * Notes regarding computers with installations of Microsoft Windows 98 second edition: - When using connection files, limit the number of citation downloads to EndNote to 2500. * Notes regarding computers with installations of Microsoft NT: - Please download and install Microsoft Service Pack 6 (http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/nts/downloads/recommended/SP6/allSP6.asp). ---------------------------------------------------- III. UPGRADING FROM AN EARLIER VERSION ---------------------------------------------------- While it is not required, it is best to uninstall older versions of EndNote before you install EndNote 6. Before you begin, back up custom styles, filters, connection files and databases. Uninstall your older EndNote by going to "Start > Programs > EndNote > Uninstall EndNote." ---------------------------------------------------- IV. Token Access to ISI's Web of Science ---------------------------------------------------- Technical Note for customers with TOKEN ACCESS to ISI's Web of Science.
