C:\Program Files\Winamp\Plugins). - Open preferences dialog - Plug-ins\Visualization: Select "ControlFreak v1.00 [vis_ctrlfreak.dll]". - Plug-ins\General Purpose: Select "ControlFreak v1.00". - Plug-ins: We recommend checking "Auto execute visualization plug-in on playback" if you want to use the spectrum analyser. - You can configure the plug-in either from the "Preferences\Plug-ins\ General Purpose" window, or by pressing Ctrl-F in Winamp's main window. Series 60 Application - Extract the .SIS file and send it to the phone. You can install the application to either phone memory or MMC. A new item should now appear in the application menu titled "CtrlFreak". Bluetooth Setup ======================================== You need to set the Bluetooth virtual serial port (also called a COM port) which the ControlFreak Winamp plugin will connect to. This is usually pretty easy but it varies depending on your Bluetooth software. The most important thing to remember is that your computer uses separate COM ports for incoming and outgoing connections. You need to check your Bluetooth software and find the incoming COM port. Here are some step-by-step examples for finding the right COM Port and adjusting the security settings if necessary (your device might have different software but probably has similar settings). * Bluetooth in an IBM T40 laptop: - Open "My Bluetooth Places". - Right click "My Device" and select "Properties". - Under "Local Services", set existing Bluetooth Serial Port service to unsecure connection, or click Add Serial Service if it doesn't exist (check Startup Automatically, uncheck Secure Connection). Note the COM port number. * 3Com USB Bluetooth adapter: - Open "Bluetooth Connection Manager". - Choose the "Tools\COM Ports" menu item. - Note the 3Com Bluetooth Serial Host port number. (not the 3Com Bluetooth Serial Client) Tip: You can disable being prompted to allow connections by going to Tools\Security Mode, selecting "Custom" and then setting "Security Level" to "None". * TDK USB Bluetooth adapter: - Open "My Bluetooth Places". - Choose the "Bluetooth\Advanced Configuration" menu item. - Click on the "Client applications" tab. - Note the Bluetooth Serial Port COM Port number. Now that you know the incoming COM port, open the configuration window of the ControlFreak Winamp plug-in: - Enter the COM port into the combo box (if your incoming Bluetooth Serial port is COM8, you can type "8" or "COM8" into the COM Port field). - Click "Connect". - We recommend checking "Connect on startup" so you don't have to manually start ControlFreak every time you run Winamp. Tip: You can click "Scan Ports" to find all existing COM ports if you are not sure what are available. With certain configurations this could take a couple minutes and cause prompting to create Bluetooth connections. Just cancel any connection requests. You are now ready to be a ControlFreak! Here are the controls to get you started: ========================================= In any player view: Select - Toggle play/pause Up - Increase volume Down - Decrease volume Right - Next song Left - Previous song Hold right - Fast forward Hold left - Rewind Here are some handy shortcuts: ======================================== In any player view: 0 - Toggle cover slide 1 - Go to Track info view 2 - Go to Playlist preview view 3 - Go to Spectrum analyser view 7 (p) - Go to Playlist Select - Connect C - Disconnect In the playlist view: 1 - View details on selected track 2-9 - Start a text search C - Remove track Select - Play selected track Hold select - Queue selected track Note: You can also control your music outside ControlFreak as long as ControlFreak is running in the background. In the phone application: Edit key + left - Previous track Edit key + right - Next track Edit key + up - Volume up Edit key + down - Volume down Edit key + select - Play/Pause Depending on your phone, Edit key is the key with Pencil, ABC or Shift symbol on it. Plugin Configuration ======================================== Press Ctrl-F in Winamp to open the ControlFreak configuration window. You can configure the following settings: Connection: - Connect on startup: If checked, the serial port will be connected whenever Winamp starts. Volume Control: - Winamp simple: Adjusts Winamp's internal volume. Note: no feedback on current volume is provided with this setting. - Winamp & Wav Out: Adjusts Winamp's internal volume and Window's Wave volume. - Master volume: Adjusts Window's Master volume. - All volumes: Adjusts all of the above volumes. Spectrum Analyser - Split Stereo: Left and right channels displayed mirrored around low frequencies. - Mixed mode: Left and right channels merged into one when displayed. - Max FPS: Maximum frames per second (20 - 40). - Latency (ms): The latency between sending data and it arriving on the phone. This determines synchronisation of the spectrum data. You can set this to "Auto detect" and let ControlFreak automatically adjust the latency. - Buffer size (ms): The amount of spectrum data collected before sending it to the phone. Unless you experience frame loss due to variable latency of your Bluetooth adapter, you shouldn't need to change this from the default 400. Connection Troubleshooting ======================================== Problem: I am able to make a connection from the phone to the computer but all i get on the screen is "== Connected ==" instead of track information. Solution: You should check that Winamp is running, the ControlFreak plug-in is properly installed, and that the plugin is connected to the correct COM port. Note: We have experienced problems with some Bluetooth software being very unstable and requiring a restart to get working properly. ------------------- Problem: I get "Error connecting to serial port" when trying to connect the Winamp plugin to the Bluetooth virtual serial port. Solution: The COM port string may be formatted incorrectly. You should enter either just the number, or enter COM followed by the number, Eg. "9" or "COM9". Please read the Bluetooth Setup section of this file to find the correct COM port to use. ------------------- Problem: I get "Serial port already in use by another application" when trying to connect the Winamp plugin to the Bluetooth virtual serial port. Solution: Check that no other software is running that is using that port. The most common reason for this error is when Nokia PC Suite is running in the background. PC Suite: Double click the icon labelled "mRouter" in the system tray to edit PC Suite's connection properties. Make sure the COM port you are trying to use is not checked in the list. Note: When you are not using ControlFreak you can always turn this checkbox back on to use the COM port with PC Suite. ------------------- Problem: When i use Scan ports to list all the COM ports, the one i need to use is listed as "(in use)". Solution: See above solution. Remember to visit the ControlFreak guide at http://mtvoid.com to make sure you get the most out of ControlFreak.
