Configuring Microsoft Outlook for use with Siemens SmartSync
The
following information applies to Microsoft Outlook98 and Microsoft Outlook2000
on all operating systems supported by Siemens Mobile Phone Manager and SmartSync.
Due
to a limitation of the Microsoft Outlook versions listed above, Siemens SmartSync may not work properly with Outlook installations
configured to work in "Internet Mail Only" (IMO) or "No
E-Mail" mode. These configurations must be changed to "Corporate or
Workgroup" (CW) mode in order to work properly with SmartSync.
The
following instructions will help you determine if your Outlook configuration
needs to be changed, and if so, to change it quickly and easily.
For more
background information on this compatibility issue, see Microsoft Knowledge
Base articles 252720 ("INFO: MAPI and CDO Are Not Supported in Outlook IMO
Mode", http://support.microsoft.com/?id=252720)
and 195479 ("OL2000: What Setup Option Should I Choose When I Install
Outlook", http://support.microsoft.com/?id=195479)
Instructions:
First,
determine if your configuration needs to be changed. Open Microsoft Outlook,
and select Help/About Microsoft Outlook. You will see a dialog similar to the
following:
In
the second line of the dialog, below the Outlook version number, you will see
either “No E-mail”, “Internet Mail Only”, or “Corporate or Workgroup”.
For more
information, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 196041 (“OL2000: How to Tell
What Type of Outlook Setup You Have”, http://support.microsoft.com/?id=196041)
If
you saw “No E-mail” or “Internet Mail Only” in the About Box, follow these instructions
to reconfigure Outlook:
Important: Make sure you have the
CD from which you originally installed Outlook available. Although you do not
need to uninstall Outlook to make this change, Outlook does require the
installation CD to be available so that it can install new components.
Important: If your current Internet
mail settings include IMAP account information, follow the links below for
instructions on saving your IMAP account information:

In Outlook, select Tools/Options, and click on the “Mail Delivery” tab. You
will see a dialog like the following:
(4)
Click on the “Reconfigure Mail Support…” button to launch the “E-Mail Service
Options” wizard:
(5)
Select “Corporate or Workgroup” and click the “Next” button. You will see the
following alert:
(6)
Click the “Yes” button and Outlook will shut down immediately. Re-launch
Outlook. As Outlook launches it will begin installing the Corporate/Workgroup
components. During the setup, you will be asked to provide your Outlook
installation CD:
(7)
Insert the CD and allow setup to run to completion. Outlook will finish
launching and your internet e-mail settings, personal folders, and Windows
address book should all be available as they were before.
