DeskIcon by Andrew I. Reshin (aresh@mail.ru). Modified 26.02.2001 The DeskIcon utility change the color for text displayed below icons on the desktop and causes the background of text to be transparent, so you can see wallpaper through text. Also it can enable and disable "Hot track selection mode" (i.e. icon's selection when the cursor remains over the icon) and set another extended styles for your desktop window. Usage. Run DeskIcon.exe. In a normal case it works silently and you can view only results of this work (of course, also, you can see task named "DeskIcon" via Task Manager). Active DeskIcon can be configured, you must simply run DeskIcon.exe once again and the configuration dialog should appear. The following is a brief decription of buttons in this dialog box: "Cancel" Close the dialog box. "Stop" Stop DeskIcon and close the dialog box. "Set text color" Change the color for text below icons. "Install" Create shortcut to DeskIcon.exe in the StartUp menu, so it should be started automatically at system boot time. "Uninstall" Delete the previously mentioned shortcut and DeskIcon.ini. DeskIcon create its .ini file when the text color or extended styles changed for the first time or the shortcut created. "Hot track selection" Enables/disables hot track selection in the desktop window. Hot track selection means that an icon is automatically selected when the cursor remains over the icon for a certain period of time. "Underline hot"/"Underline cold" Causes those hot/non-hot items that may be activated to be displayed with underlined text. This style requires that "Two click activation" be checked also (for "Underline hot" it can be unchecked, also). "Two click activation" Checked: when the user clicks a shortcut for the first time he select it and when he clicks for the next time he launch it. Unchecked: shortcut would be launched after first click. Undefined: both these styles are absent. If checked or unchecked, these styles also enables hot tracking in the desktop window. Hot tracking means that when the cursor moves over an item, it is highlighted but not selected. All of the extended styles can works or not depend on your operating system, the version of MSIE and so on. DeskIcon has been tested on Windows 95 OSR2/NTWS 4.0/ME/2000 Prof. Results are various, but, anyway, harmful after-effects not found :)
