Installation of ABBYY FineReader 7.0 Corporate Edition on a network server can only be carried out by the system administrator. The installation consists of two stages. First, the program is installed on the server. From the server the program can be installed on workstations using one of the four methods:
- using Active Directory
- using Microsoft System Management Service (SMS)
- form the command line
- manually in interactive mode
To install ABBYY FineReader 7.0 Corporate Edition on the server:
- Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
- Run setup.exe from the FineReader CD-ROM with the /a command-line option.
For more information about installing ABBYY FineReader on workstations, working with the License Manager, and working with the program in a local area network, please refer to the "System Administrator's Guide" which can be found in the Administrator's Guide folder on the server on which FineReader was installed.
How to use user dictionaries of ABBYY FineReader 4.0, 5.0 or 6.0 in ABBYY FineReader 7.0.
- Uninstall ABBYY FineReader 4.0 or 5.0.
- Install ABBYY FineReader 7.0.
- Run ABBYY FineReader 7.0 from the Start button menu.
- Click the View dictionaries button on the Check Spelling tab (Tools>Options).
- In the Select dictionary dialog select the necessary dictionary and click the View button. A dialog will open. Click the Import button. The dictionaries you can import to ABBYY FineReader 7.0 are located in the catalog where previous version of FineReader was installed in the /Language folder and have the .pmd extension. Select the necessary dictionary and click the Open button.
How to use user dictionaries of ABBYY FineReader 5.0 or 6.0 not uninstalling it.
- Run ABBYY FineReader 5.0 or 6.0 from the Start button menu.
- Click the View dictionaries button on the Check Spelling tab (Tools>Options).
- In the Select dictionary dialog select the necessary dictionary and click the View button. A dialog will open. Click the Export button and save the dictionary as Portable Morphological Dictionary.
- Install ABBYY FineReader 7.0.
- Run ABBYY FineReader 7.0 from the Start button menu.
- Click the View dictionaries button on the Check Spelling tab (Tools>Options).
- In the Select dictionary dialog select the necessary dictionary and click the View button. A dialog will open. Click the Import button and enter the path to your saved dictionaries. Select the necessary dictionary and click the Open button.
If user patterns were created in FineReader 4.0, 5.0 or 6.0, you may use them in ABBYY FineReader 7.0:
- Copy the .ptn files to the batch folder that will be used in ABBYY FineReader 7.0.
A previous version of FineReader must be installed on your computer before installing the upgrade-version of ABBYY FineReader 7.0. That is why it is recommended to uninstall the previous version only when FineReader 7.0 installation is over. If you have already uninstalled your previous version of FineReader, you should type in its serial number while installing ABBYY FineReader 7.0.
If FineReader Setup failed to embed the FineReader icon into Microsoft Word toolbar, you can do the following:
- Copy the file named FineReader7.dot (FineReader7.2003.dot in the case of Microsoft Word 2003) from the folder into which FineReader was installed into the Startup folder of Microsoft Word.
To locate the Startup folder:
- Run Microsoft Word.
- On the Tools menu, select Options>File Locations.
- Double-click Startup in the File types list.
- In the dialog box that opens, in the Folder name field you will see the path to the Startup folder.
Note. Saving recognition results in Microsoft Word XML has been tested on Microsoft Word 2003 Beta 2 Technical Refresh.

To uninstall ABBYY FineReader 7.0, please do the following:
- Select ABBYY FineReader item in Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs and click the Change/Remove button. Select the components you want to uninstall.
User templates are located in a batch and have the .ptn extension.
User dictionaries have the .ame extension and are located:
- on Windows NT\Windows 2000\Windows XP in \Documents and Settings\[User profile]\Local Settings\Application Data\ABBYY\FineReader\7.00\UserDictionaries
- on Windows 95\Windows 98\Windows ME in the folder where FineReader is installed.
Scanlog.txt is located in User profile:
- on Windows NT: \WINNT\[User profile]\Local Settings\Application Data\ABBYY\ScanManager\7.00
- on Windows 2000\Windows XP systems: \Documents and Settings\[User profile]\Local Settings\Application Data\ABBYY\ScanManager\7.00
- on Windows 95\Windows 98\Windows ME systems: \Program Files\Abbyy FineReader 7.0\Scan.
