The DNA amplification process in the DIAPOPS technique ( ) consists of two types of amplifications. The amplification process initiates in the liquid phase using the liquid phase primer. When a sufficient amount of liquid phase amplicons are present, they will start anneal to the solid phase primers. This initiates the solid phase DNA amplification. The following two animations illustrate these two types of DNA amplification (click on the images to start/stop).
